![]() ![]() The Hero Pet program is just one more way to allow us to continue in our mission to provide outstanding care for all the homeless pets in need. They have the prestigious honor of being known as our JHS "Shelter Heroes." Additional funds raised by adopting a Hero pet from JHS can support the care of an additional 1–4 shelter pets. ![]() These rare pets help curtail these costs and save the lives of others. JHS uses the additional funds generated from our Hero Pets to support and aid in the care of pets’ whose stays are longer, medical needs are greater and for those who may face emergencies. Our standard adoption fee is $90 - $120, but some pets-like the poodle puppy or Siamese kitten-that may be in higher demand are considered "HERO PETS” with adoption fees of $180. Although our first priority is to find homeless pets’ families, as a non-profit we rely heavily on funding to keep our adoption fees down and make our pets more accessible to the public even as our veterinary, medical and other costs to run our shelter continue to rise. The total value of these services coupled with the cost of daily care far exceeds the amount JHS receives in our standard $90- $105 adoption fee. On average, it costs a minimum of $30 a day to shelter, house, feed, and keep a dog healthy while in our care.Įvery pet adopted from JHS will be spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated with age appropriate vaccines, de-wormed, micro-chipped and treated for fleas and ticks. JHS does not euthanize any animal "because it has been in the shelter too long” or "because we are running out of room.” Many animals are residents of our shelter for several months before finding a home, some have waited as long as one year. The senior black lab or the older calico cat may need to wait several months for the right family to come along, while the poodle puppy of Siamese kitten may have 10 people ready to adopt the first day he or she is available. We realize, however, some animals may not get chosen as quickly. A wide range of additional services may also be offered by the Joplin Humane Society. Some of our pets have found a way to help us care for our other homeless pets!ĪLL of our homeless pets are amazing to us, and we want each and every one of them to find a forever, loving home quickly. The Joplin Humane Society, located in Joplin, Missouri is an Animal Shelter that provides temporary housing and care for stray, unwanted, and owner-relinquished animals including dogs and cats in Jasper County. ![]()
